Enemies from Super Mario Brothers re-imagined with some frightening twists.
Always wondered what the enemies from Super Mario Brothers might look like in real life? Artist Mike Puncekar draws some of these awesome (though sometimes a bit creepy) illustrations for your viewing pleasure. Although the link above will point you over to Geekologie, you should have a look at his other amazing work detailed on his website.

A neat tutorial on how to make your very own melted crayon art.
Going to have to try this out with my kids at some point in the near future. We have enough leftover crayons laying around the house to make several of these.

Merry Dukemas! Gog.com giving away Duke Nukem 3D for the holidays.
I have fond memories of playing Duke Nukem 3D in college as it was my first real networked game with my fellow nerd-type college friends that we could all partake in. Mind you this was way before your traditional online multiplayer we know today, before the Halos and Call of Duties, and way before kids screaming obscenities at other adults through Xbox headsets were the norm. I'm surprised to see that the game still holds up well jaggy pixels and all. Hey, you can even snag a Mac port of the game - hurry offer ends while supplies last (you have until December 14 and supplies won't run out).

Upcoming Star Wars 1313 video game getting some helping hands from all facets of LucasFilms.
Now that Disney has acquired LucasArts some interesting news is starting to trickle out regarding their games division. It seems that all of the different entities under LucasFilms such as Industrial Light and Magic, Skywalker Sound, Lucas Animation, and LucasArts are all collobarating on this next generation title. Star Wars 1313 will take place in the seedy underbelly of Corsuscant which alone sounds like an interesting premise. Whatever does come out of this Disney/Lucas effort it will most likely be better than The Force Unleashed 2 by default (zing).

Snag an enjoyable Mario Kart clone on the Xbox 360 for just $15.
I played the demo of this a while back and really enjoyed it. To me it was mario kart with real cars. I never did buy the full version though. Seeing at $15 has peaked my interest again.

A video review of the next Legend of Zelda game due out on November 20th for the Nintendo Wii.
GameTrailers sums up everything you would need to know about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in under ten minutes for your viewing pleasure. I've always had a real soft spot for Zelda games. This title may force me to blow the dust off of the old Nintendo Wii and hook it up via nine-hundred multi-colored component cables once again. Also, as the review demonstrates, the Wii really shows it's age with the graphics and lack of voice acting here. In the end though, it still looks like it will be an utterly fantastic Zelda game.

Nintendo shareholders would really like to see Mario on the iPhone, sooner than later.
It's an interesting time these days for video game consoles. That is of course, if you happen to be a company called Nintendo. Nintendo's latest handheld has been officially declared as a flop (even by Nintendo itself) and the price has been reduced not long after release. The caliber of games you can find on the iPhone and iPad do rival what you can find on a Nintendo handheld - and at a much cheaper cost ($40 compared to often times $1-2). It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

- Photoblog: Tomato Fibers
Playing with my new FujiFilm F550 EXR. Loving it so far, it's nice to be able to capture a shot like this using a mid-range point and shoot. Bonus: used the camera's EXR mode for this which automatically detected that I was attempting a macro shot and adjusted internal settings accordingly. Take that, manual settings!

The Humble Indie Bundle is back again, get yourself some indie games for cheap.
If you want to try out some new video games for an obscenely low amount of money (potentially free... if you're the evil type) then the Humble Indie Bundle is just the ticket. There is no DRM on any of these titles and they even throw in a Steam key for those so inclined who happen to shun all other gaming platforms. But the best part of this is that you also get to support some awesome charities with your purchase, with the option on how you want your purchase divided up between developers and said charities. Wow.

Some photos of an amazing three-dimensional street mural for your dizzying pleasure.
The folks over at WebUrbanist have uncovered some awesome photos of a street illusion over in Stockholm. There are some videos over on their site in which the artist gives a behind the scenes look at how the overall effect was achieved. Last interesting note: traditionally sidewalk or street art is done in chalk but this installation was pulled off using massively printed sheets (to achieve the photo-realism element of the project).
