- Intro to Web Design
I always road-test these comics on several people before I throw them up here. Out of all seven people I was still the only one who thought this was remotely funny. Nerd alert.

- Avis acquires Zipcar for a mere $500 million.
Avis says it expects to generate $50 to $70 million in ‘annual synergies’ as a result of the deal. FYI: The company booked $7.3 billion in revenue for the full year 2012, and employs roughly 29,000 employees today. The transaction is expected to close in the spring of 2013.

- Want to know what the world searched for in 2012? There's a Google Zeitgeist for that.
They even prepared a little video with inspirational music to go along with it. How very Google of them.

- Yahoo pulls the curtain back on a brand new version of their mail client.
Definetly looking forward to giving this a whirl as I'm starting to grow weary of the GMail interface these days. Microsoft Outlook, which I use for work, is moderately simple yet has power features for people (such as myself) who are little overboard in terms of organization. I'd also like to point that GMail's labels versus folders paradigm does absolutely nothing for me. GMail looks like a stream of people shouting at me.

- Ever wondered what the back of your favorite websites looks like?
There's a Tumblr account for that.

- Vimeo now available on your Apple TV thanks to latest software update.
Vimeo has some great HD content, it's nice to see this appear on the little black TV box from Apple. Besides the welcomed support of Vimeo to this little device, you can also stream your purchased television shows directly from the cloud. This will work for your previously purchased television shows as well which is nice.

- Sponsored tweets from companies you follow will be appearing more often in your Twitter timeline.
If you use a Twitter and you happen to follow of lot of name brand companies you'll be seeing what that particular company has to say front and center. Sponsored tweets from said companies will appear at the top of your timeline and can be easily dismissed with a click. This seems like a good idea in theory, if I'm following a given company on Twitter one would think that what they have to say would be relevant to my interests (in theory of course). In theory you could also follow me on Twitter (@subwarm), and no - there will not be sponsored messages from me or GLM (not intentionally anyway).

- Some photos of an amazing three-dimensional street mural for your dizzying pleasure.
The folks over at WebUrbanist have uncovered some awesome photos of a street illusion over in Stockholm. There are some videos over on their site in which the artist gives a behind the scenes look at how the overall effect was achieved. Last interesting note: traditionally sidewalk or street art is done in chalk but this installation was pulled off using massively printed sheets (to achieve the photo-realism element of the project).

- Old Spice commercial guys to do battle via Internet popularity contest.
Dear Old Spice, there is no need for a contest here. Isaiah Mustafa should be your permanent spokesman. If you want more information other than the previous two sentences know that Mustafa's opponent happens to be none other than Fabio. You can watch some of the back and forth videos between Mustafa and Fabio over on Mashable. It's all in the delivery. Night vision top hat!

- A good primer on web operations for my fellow web developers out there.
Every little piece of it can break at any time, can stall at any time. The more pieces you have in your application puzzle, the more breaking points you have. And everything that can break, will break. Usually not all at once, but most certainly when it's the least expected, or just when you really need your application to be available.

- Harry Potter and Google make semi-unbreakable vow for Pottermore.com website.
Pottermore will be integrated with a number of Google products and APIs. When the series of Harry Potter ebooks and audio books launch on Pottermore.com later this year, you will be able to push them through to your Google eBooks account. Additionally, YouTube will be the default platform for all future video broadcasts, just as it was for JK Rowling’s Pottermore announcement back in June.
