Mostly in honor of the recent God Street Wine reunion announcement that was just recently posted. Must. Contain. Excitement. Link here for those interested.Stuff to do today:
- Continue containing excitement
- Attempt to purchase tickets to said reunion shows first
- Seems like it's a good week to be a fan of jambands past and present
- And by 'present' meaning this little Phish link that popped up this week
- Attend movie in full-on Avatar costume for giggles (since it will most likely be in 3D and all)
- Ben Stiller FTW - abandon previous to-do item
- Get back to iPhone development
- Sorry, DVD version of Avatar won't contain any 3-D effects from the theaters.
FOX would like you to keep going to the theaters to get the full experience of Avatar rather than have it recreated poorly in your living room. Also, Rupert Murdoch would really like to see a sequel.
- IMAX wants to make sure they have a plan for life after 'Avatar'.
Worried about the future of IMAX? Don't worry, they've got a plan. More theaters, more partnerships and more access to your living room (thanks in part to the 3D channel coming soon from Sony, Discovery and yes, IMAX).
- Will 3D television technology save the industry?
Many however believe 2010 really is the breakthrough year for the technology, helped in large party by the growing number of 3D movies at the theatre and the success of James Cameron's sci-fi epic Avatar.
- Avatar is now officially the second-highest grossing film of all time worldwide.
In a previous post I doubted that Avatar would reach legendary numbers. Well, allow me to now eat my words. Amazingly enough, I still haven't seen this on the big screen yet. I'm still hearing mixed reviews from pals and fellow geeks.
- Avatar flick still doing pretty well for James Cameron and company.
The film has raked in a whopping $232 billion thus far. Source website seems to think that Avatar is well on it's way to reaching the likes of Star Wars ($460.9 million) and maybe even Cameron's own Titantic ($1.8 billion). Not sure how you can equate $232 million to $1.8 billion that quickly though.
- Brand new Microsoft patent encourages your avatar to exercise.
According to this new patent it looks like your Xbox 360 avatar will be able to closely resemble your real-life physical appearance. In some cases, you may be locked out of additional levels and other features until your avatar meets certain health demands.
- Hand drawn portraits are the latest craze in social networking.
Some avid social-network users are commissioning artists to create small digital images to represent themselves in the online world. Other Internet-savvy people use automated computer programs and Web sites to generate posterized likenesses of themselves.
- Ten movies that Avatar unfortunately resembles.
...and this is just based on footage from the recently released teaser trailer.
- Teaser trailer for James Cameron's Avatar now available online.
The sci-fi flick is due to hit theaters this December. According to Wikipedia, this film has been in development for quite some time (read section about filming and effects).
- Next Xbox Live update scheduled for August 11th.
Update includes games on demand service, Netflix party option, and Avatar specific purchasing.
