New report reveals that Google uses roughly 900,000 servers.New report reveals that Google uses roughly 900,000 servers.

The good news is that at least those 900,000 servers are the low-power high-efficiency breed of servers that one would expect a company as big as Google to be using. The source article has some other interesting tidbits regarding software that will automate data across multiple data center as well as Google's server expansion plans. Long story short, the number will probably go over a million in the near future.

Daily Grind: Efficient

Name: Vin (aka jimmy three-teeth)
How Vin feels today: Efficient @ 3:10:25 PM
What Vin really wants today: Give myself a round of applause for writing various scripts that condensed a boatload of work into a smaller buoy-sized amount of work.

Music Stuck in Head: The Entertainer / Billy Joel
Mostly because the synth effect in the intro and outro of the song. Reminds me of Saturday morning cartoons every time.

Stuff to do today:

  • Read up on all the happenings from CES over in Las Vegas
  • Watch the Microsoft Keynote
  • Boy, was that ever boring
  • Find something more entertaining
  • This YouTube video will suffice for now
  • Wow, it's even got Reversi

Ditch your gas guzzler for a more efficient one and you may get $4,500 towards a new one.Ditch your gas guzzler for a more efficient one and you may get $4,500 towards a new one.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign into law the 'cash for clunkers' program, which was approved by the Senate on Thursday. For owners of low-mileage models such as the 1994 Ford Bronco, 1998 Nissan Pathfinder or the 1995 Chevrolet Blazer, the plan could give them a reason to visit their local car dealer during an economic downturn.
