Sony looking to give Apple some viable competition in the portable arena.Sony looking to give Apple some viable competition in the portable arena.

Sony engineers are toiling away on “a portable device that blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable.” It will also knit in tightly with Sony’s iTunes-like media store, a marketplace for music, video and games set to debut later this month.

Final Fantasy I and II now available for your beloved iPhone and/or iPod Touch.Final Fantasy I and II now available for your beloved iPhone and/or iPod Touch.

Buying either game will set you back just nine bucks a piece which isn't so bad when you consider what the Nintendo DS versions of these games are going for. A lot can be said for being able to use tactile buttons though.

Adobe decides to chime in on the iPad's lack of Flash capability.Adobe decides to chime in on the iPad's lack of Flash capability.

The lack of Flash support for the iPad - and, for that matter, for the iPhone and iPod touch as well - is Apple's doing, not Adobe's. Adobe, for its part, has been eager to get Flash onto Apple's handhelds for quite some time.

Sixteen games that make gaming on the iPhone worthwhile.Sixteen games that make gaming on the iPhone worthwhile.

Some interesting choices for fellow iPhone owners looking for some gaming recommendations. I'm a bigger fan of casual games these days so I can heartily agree with the Peggle and Bejeweled 2 inclusions. I'd also like to throw Scramble (free app) which is a lovely waste of time as well.

Leaked photo of Apple tablet glass component surfaces on the Interwebs.Leaked photo of Apple tablet glass component surfaces on the Interwebs.

If this leaked photo (not pictured - click over to source link to view) turns out to be the real deal it looks like the fabled Apple table may take the shape of an oversized iPhone after all. I'm a little doubtful on this one.

What, no contest for the three billionth download in the app store? What gives? It's not like they've slated out other things to do over there in Cupertino besides contests and giveaways. Wakka wakka wakka.

Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.Engadget pulls the curtain back on their very own iPhone app.

I've just downloaded this and it's not too shabby overall. If you're like me and pop over to Engadget at least once a day this should save you some time (or waste time depending on how you look at it). Lastly, I find the iPhone app to be a little easier on the eyes than their current website design (yech).

Daily Grind: Gross

Name: Vin (aka lozenge boy)
How Vin feels today: Gross @ 1:12:09 PM
What Vin really wants today: To go home and not breath on anything that happens to be a living thing. Seriously, enough with this cold/flu crap.

Music Stuck in Head: Panama / Van Halen
I'm confused. Is this tune about a girl or a car? Or both? What does any of that have to do with Panama? Upon closer analysis, the song is actually about a car. Thank you Wikipedia.

Stuff to do today:

  • Take more DayQuil
  • Break down and download Dragon's Lair app for iPhone
  • Downloaded
  • This is really quite a nostalgic journey back to the arcade
  • Here's a video showing off most of Dirk's many demises on YouTube
  • Find a copy of Mad Dog McRee next

For some time Microsoft has tried to muscle onto the iPhone. In August Microsoft app developers made it possible for third-party iPhone app developers to integrate Bing into their offerings by providing a software developers kit (SDK).

The three best ways in which to build an iPhone app according to The Wall Street Journal. The three best ways in which to build an iPhone app according to The Wall Street Journal.

Here I thought WSJ was providing methods in which to actually build an iPhone apps and not advice on how to BUILD UP an iPhone app. A couple of extra words in the headline may have fixed that mixup for me, WSJ. Cough.

Apple decides to kick a thousand apps out of the app store for gaming the system.Apple decides to kick a thousand apps out of the app store for gaming the system.

It turns out that all of the thousand applications in question were actually from the same developer. The developer was trading promotional codes in exchange for five star reviews. Apple was none too pleased hence the swifty expulsion from the app store island.

So AT&T would like you to reach out to them with this iPhone app if you happen to hit a dead zone or if you become a dropped call victim. So how are you supposed to actually make the complaint when there isn't any service?
