YouTube experimenting with the new design dubbed Cosmic Panda.YouTube experimenting with the new design dubbed Cosmic Panda.

I had a chance to try this out last night and I liked the experience. The new design seems to take a couple cues from Hulu and other video sites by utilizing a darker background to make the video pop more. The other neat thing is that the comments will scroll while keeping the video locked to the top of screen and in view. That is surely a welcome change for those who enjoy reading inane YouTube comments. You can try it out for yourself over yonder.

Daily Grind: All over the place

Name: Vin (aka waxpaper eater)
How Vin feels today: All over the place @ 3:30:00 PM
What Vin really wants today: Some peace and quiet. It's turning out to be quite the manic Monday.

Music Stuck in Head: Certainly nothing from HSM3
No, certainly not.

Stuff to do today:

  • Explain what today's aka actually means
  • Probably better that it's not explained
  • Note that MST3K'ing High School Musical 3 makes for a great social experiment
  • Thank Ant and Cheryl for being courageous enough to participate
  • Conclusion: some parts are so bad that no jokes can be made
  • Alternatively, some parts are downright riotous

Daily Grind: Rested

Name: Vin (aka kevin)
How Vin feels today: Rested @ 9:40:00 AM
What Vin really wants today: To enjoy this nice laid-back feeling for as long as possible.

Music Stuck in Head: Nothing Too Tough / The Backyardigans
The in-car music of choice for the little ones. Multiple times. Every car ride.

Stuff to do today:

  • Note that that the latest Pixar offering, UP, was quite enjoyable
  • Note that the Disney 3D experience is not all that it's cracked up to be
  • ...the effects were kind of neat but overall it kind of degraded the overall definition of the movie
  • Stop being such a movie experience nerd
  • Speaking of Disney, read up some more technical explanation regarding the monorail crash
  • Wait patiently to see what LucasArts has in store today for this 'special announcement' they teased all weekend on Twitter
  • My guess is still Grim Fandango

Eight science kit experiments and eight do-it-yourself experiments compared.Eight science kit experiments and eight do-it-yourself experiments compared.

...we ordered nine kits on different subjects and tested an experiment from each. But homemade experiments can be just as complex and educational (while costing up to $100 less), so we found alternatives to each of the boxed kits that teach similar lessons just as well.

Thirteen year old swaps an iPod with original Sony Walkman for a week.Thirteen year old swaps an iPod with original Sony Walkman for a week.

It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.
