- A neat tutorial on how to make your very own melted crayon art.
Going to have to try this out with my kids at some point in the near future. We have enough leftover crayons laying around the house to make several of these.

- Apple has more cash on hand than the United States government.
Apple's last earnings report (PDF here) showed that the company had $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June. In other words, the world's largest tech company has more cash than the world's largest sovereign government. That's because Apple collects more money than it spends, while the U.S. government does not.

- Fourteen amazing and unexpected urban art installations for you to gawk at.
It's not every day that you get to see a phone booth murdered in the name of art. This and other interesting bits of eye candy can be viewed over on the source article by way of the folks over at WebUrbanist. The melted ice cream truck half-way down the page get's the runner up award in my book. My favorite is the 900-pound box man, it reminds of the near-impossible yellow boss you had to beat before Dr. Wiley in Mega Man.

- Netflix pulls the curtain back on separate plan changes for both streaming and DVDs by mail.
...we didn’t anticipate offering DVD only plans. Since then we have realized that there is still a very large continuing demand for DVDs both from our existing members as well as non-members. Given the long life we think DVDs by mail will have, treating DVDs as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan neither makes great financial sense nor satisfies people who just want DVDs.

- Rogue star mystery finally deciphered thanks to Hubble Space Telescope.
The massive, hot star seemed out of place when astronomers first spotted it in 2006, and now thanks to Hubble, we know why. The misfit, 30 Dor #016, appears to have been ejected from a cluster of even heftier stars, pinging off of them and off into space at tremendous speed.

- Ten cool gadgets you can't buy in the United States just yet.
This particular list is rife with iPad and iPhone alternatives (all of which seem to be running some flavor of Android). The two lone and notable exceptions in my opinion seem to be this tiny camera, pictured in thumbnail to the left, and the ever peculiar Ant Watch (fifth slide in).
- An insightful TED video on why people seem to like Apple products so much.
This is a great video that will challenge your common mode of thinking just three minutes in. The method doesn't only apply to Apple (other inspirational leaders are referenced in the video as well) but it serves as a great example for the entire concept. Mental note to self: watch more TED videos.

- CNN lists out the top ten geek anthems of all time.
Slow news week eh, CNN? It's nice to see that they are tailoring articles that happen to be relevant to my specific interests. Coincidence or targeted advertising? All things considered (and to my surprise) this is actually a pretty well rounded selection of songs. Go ahead, get your geek on.

- Disney lets loose that a Tron animated series is currently in the works.
Disney has announced that a Tron animated series is currently in development and will probably air soon after the release of the Tron: Legacy sequel. Also of note is that the series will be of the micro variety which means you'll be getting five minute episodes at first to see if you really care enough to watch thirty minute episodes.
- Google would like you to know that they think PageRank is a tad over-hyped.
PageRank has a catchy name and the name recognition. But we've always looked at all the things that are available when ranking search results. We look at where do things come from, what are the words used, how do they interact with each other, how do people interact with them,' he said.

- Eight of the best unexpected and hilarious cameos from comedy movies.
Of all the cameos on this list the Vonnegut one has to be my favorite. I have trouble reading (correction - starting) any of his novels without first flashing to this scene. '...and another thing, Vonnegut! I'm gonna stop payment on that check! Hey Kurt, can you read lips?'

- Free coffee available to New Jersey Turnpike drivers on New Year's Eve.
Not a bad idea at all. Officials hope this will help drivers fight off fatigue and make it home safe and sound. Other locations seem to be following suit, 7-11 (at least in Tuscon) is giving away free cups of joe as well.
