Google decides to acquire Plink, a visual search company.Google decides to acquire Plink, a visual search company.

The four month-old start-up provided visual search results based on artwork photography submitted to their PlinkArt application on your Android handset. The principle is simple: take a shot of a painting, run it through the Plink art database and get the details on the artwork and its author.

In a blog post, the company said a study it conducted found that consumers can process results with images 20% faster than text only results. 'It's like searching through a large online catalogue,' Microsoft said.

The volunteers perceived the rectangles elongating just two seconds after their eye was covered — much quicker than expected. When the eye patch was removed, the distortions vanished just as fast as they had appeared.
